Coffee Works
Coffee Works is a new and exciting coffee roaster on the block.
The brand was created by Kev Lewis and is a culmination of years of research into specialty coffee.
I first met Kev a few years ago when Batch Coffee was launched. He also runs a super successful coffee blog and Youtube channel that I had come across many times.
This guy knows his stuff and is somewhat of a home-barista guru.
His videos are really in depth and you can see from both youtube and his blog that coffee is a real passion of his.
The knowledge that he has accumulated over the last few years writing about coffee has now transformed into a coffee roaster that puts his customers tastes first.
He did this by creating polls and questionnaires asking his huge mailing list of coffee lovers about their preferences in coffee. this formed the base of the Coffee works menu.
He didn’t quite stop there though with the questions and asked his list of budding coffee geeks other important factors like bag sizes and delivery options.
He even designed a poll around the bag material.
So, the result of all the carefully crafted questions is Coffee Works, a crowd sourced coffee roaster, created by and for people who love great coffee.
The coffee menu consists of 16 coffees at the time of writing, with a handful of blends, one decaf and a great selection of seasonal single origins.
Coffee Works Review
The Origin
The Jaffa Cake coffee from Coffee Works coffee roasters originates from El Salvador.
The farm this coffee is grown on is called Tapantugusto, which means something along the lines of "full of clouds", in reference to the high altitude of the area, which is in Juayua in the Apaneca–Ilamatepec mountain range of the west region of El Salvador.
The farm has been managed & owned by Republica Cafetalera since 2007. They have maintained the variety as Bourbon as they believe in the unique quality that Bourbon brings.
These beans are certified RFA, SHG & EP.
Home of the famous Pacamara varietal, El Salvador has been an important player in the coffee producing World for many years.
After the civil war of the 1980’s El Salvador have been progressive in the speciality coffee industry, while many other countries replaced unique and descript coffee trees for high-yield crops, El Salvador did not go through this process.
In turn, although El Salvador does not produce anywhere near the quantity of coffee as other Central American countries it does produce undeniable quality and unusual characteristics.
