The Origin

The Pangoa Gesha coffee from Taylors Discovery originates from the Junin region of Peru.

This fresh crop comes from Celia Aysana Ramos who is a member of Pangoa co-op.

Expect delicate florals but balanced and sweet notes of berries, which are all hallmark notes of classic washed gesha!

Pangoa, which is in Satipo, Junin, Peru, was founded in 1977 and has 698 members.

The dry mill is in San Martin de Pangoa and on average produces 34 containers of coffee each year.

One of Taylor’s coffee buyers Frank Tanner recently re-visited Pangoa, as well as 3 farms owned by small-holders who are part of the cooperative.

From Frank's trip report: Gender equality was a key theme, and arguably a long-term benefit of the gender program that Taylors implemented in 2016.

2/3 of the farm visits were hosted by female producers. Use of organic inputs, variety renovation and reforestation were also common.

Pangoa have a 5-year Agroforestry plan in which they will reforest 45ha of land on member’s smallholdings with hardwood and native species.
